@patrickrhone @AndyNicolaides I think there's room for both. Much of the stuff I look back at and am unimpressed with is because it has little relevance today or to me personally. However, whether it's writing about consumer technology or taking photographs for a local news story—those words and images meant something at the time and served to inform people in some way or another. They just aren't lasting, which I believe is the reality of much day-to-day news (how much of the daily newspaper gets forgotten within 48 hours, let alone years down the road). At the time, it served a reasonable purpose to inform or inspire (more often than not, at least in my case), but the lasting power is minimal. It can be frustrating at times, but it did serve its purpose at the time and, hopefully, kept others well informed in some capacity, which is a worthwhile endeavor in and of itself, even if it doesn't seem impressive in retrospect.
